Pileated woodpeckers are the largest of the common woodpeckers found in most of North America. Pileated woodpeckers forage for their favorite meal, carpenter ants, by digging large, rectangular holes in trees.

ReplyDeleteI cannot get over your photos. Mary and I saw two of these large birds this year and I saw some work that they did to a condo at Aspetuck once....had to replace the trim on an entire sliding glass door. Seemed they pecked it because of the reflection. These photos are AMAZING!
